ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Teams, Players Recognized by ITA for Academic Success

Both the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s and women’s tennis teams along with four players from each team have been recognized for academic success by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The ITA announced the 2018 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on July 24. In all, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Teams Fall at Meridian in Final Regular Season Matches

The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s and women’s tennis teams played their final regular season matches before next week’s State/Region 23 Tournament, falling to the nationally ranked teams from Meridian Community College in matches played in Meridian.

The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ women lost 7-2 to No. 23 ranked Meridian, while the East Central men fell 9-0 to No. 10 Meridian.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Drops Pair of Road Matches at Hinds

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµâ€™s men’s and women’s tennis teams dropped a pair of matches to Hinds Community College on Monday, April 9, in Raymond.

The East Central men fell 8-1 to the No. 15 Hinds Eagles, while the Lady Warriors dropped a 6-3 match to the Hinds Lady Eagles.

A bright spot for the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ women was that freshman Bethany Wellerman of Newton County Academy remained undefeated in singles play in MACJC matches, said East Central head coach Jay Pacelli.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Drops 2 Matches at Nationally Ranked Jones County

The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s and women’s tennis teams lost a pair of matches to nationally ranked Jones County Junior College Thursday, April 5, in Ellisville.

The East Central women lost a 7-2 match to the No. 15 ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats, and the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men fell 7-2 to the No. 25 ranked Jones County Bobcats.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Teams Drop Matches to Wallace State

March 24, 2018

No. 23 nationally ranked Wallace State Community College (Hanceville, Ala.) beat the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s tennis team 8-1, while the Wallace State women won a close 5-4 match over the East Central women Saturday morning, March 24, at Tennis Complex on the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ campus in Decatur.

The East Central Warriors fell to 1-9 on the spring season, while the Lady Warriors are now 5-5.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Men’s Tennis Wins First Match of Season, Teams Sweep

March 24, 2018

The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season with a 9-0 victory over Holmes Community College, while the East Central women also defeated the Holmes women 9-0. The matches were played Friday, March 23, at the new Tennis Complex on the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ campus in Decatur.

With the team sweep, the Warriors are now 1-8 on the spring season, while the Lady Warriors improved to 5-4.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Tennis Teams Fall to Nationally Ranked Cowley

March 20, 2018

The nationally ranked teams from Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan., grabbed a pair of 9-0 wins over the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s and women’s tennis teams in matches played Monday, March 19, at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The No. 7 ranked Cowley Tigers and the No. 11 ranked Lady Tigers are playing several matches in the state of Mississippi during their spring break.

The East Central Lady Warriors fell to 4-4 on the season, while the Warriors are now 0-8.
