Led by the Lady Warrior softball team, six ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ varsity sports teams earned National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Team of the Year Honorable Mention awards for having met the grade-point average requirement of 3.00 or better for the 2017-18 academic year.

With a 3.67 team GPA, the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ women’s softball team led all softball programs in the 15-team Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges and finished tied for second among all softball programs in the NJCAA.

Seventy-five ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ student-athletes have been honored by either the National Junior College Athletic Association or the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, or both organizations, for their academic performance during the 2017-18 academic year.

In all, 45 ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ student-athletes were recognized by the NJCAA and 75 were honored by the MACJC. East Central was third among all 15 community and junior colleges in Mississippi in the number of student-athletes honored by the NJCAA.

Eric Neel, who has coached high school girls’ fast pitch softball teams to five state championships in Mississippi, has been selected as the new softball coach at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ in Decatur.

ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ Golf Coach Chris Clark has added another honor to the Warriors’ highly successful 2017-18 golf season, this time being named the Mississippi Association of Coaches Community College Golf Co-Coach of the Year.

Clark will be honored at the MAC Hall of Fame Banquet June 22 in Jackson.

Chris Harris will complete his career as Dean of Personnel Services/Athletics at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ in Decatur at the end of June after a 14-year career, and his future plans include more time with his family, some possible mission trips and time spent on the family farm.

The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ football program is hosting its 2018 Elite Warrior Football Camp on Wednesday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bailey Stadium on the campus in Decatur.

The non-contact camp is for high school players entering grades 8 through 12 in fall 2018. The cost is $50 per person and includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.
