The �Ӱ���Ƶ women’s soccer team went on the road Aug. 26 and came home with a 3-0 shutout win over Southwest Mississippi Community College in a match played in Summit.

The Lady Warriors are now 2-0 on the young season. It is the fourth straight year the team has started out at least 2-0.

Scoring for East Central were Ashley Langham, a product of Florence High School, Kenzie Jenkins of McLaurin High School, and TaNissa McNair, who prepped at Forest High School.

The �Ӱ���Ƶ men’s and women’s soccer teams both posted wins over Copiah-Lincoln Community College in season opening matches played Aug. 25 at the �Ӱ���Ƶ Soccer Field on the Decatur campus.

The East Central women posted a high scoring 12-0 shutout victory over the visiting Co-Lin women’s soccer team.

The East Central men pulled out a 5-2 victory in the nightcap against the Wolves.

The �Ӱ���Ƶ Warriors open the 2016 football campaign Thursday, Sept. 1, when they host the Holmes Community College Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. in Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.

The public is invited to “Meet the Warriors” when �Ӱ���Ƶ hosts the annual pep rally and student-athlete introductions event scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, at Bailey Stadium on the Decatur campus.

�Ӱ���Ƶ President Dr. Billy Stewart will welcome the anticipated large crowd for the event and provide comments about the upcoming athletics seasons.

Coming off the best season in 16 years, fourth-year �Ӱ���Ƶ head football coach Ken Karcher anticipates another successful season for the Warriors in 2016.

East Central finished the 2015 season ranked No. 10 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Top 20 poll after winning the C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl last December.

Karcher’s squad will have to continue improving on both sides of the ball in order to carry last year’s success into the 2016 season.

The �Ӱ���Ƶ men’s and women’s tennis teams were both named to the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s All-Academic Teams released this week.
 
In addition to the team honors, nine �Ӱ���Ƶ tennis players were also honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes for their academic performance during the 2015-16 school year.
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
 

Former �Ӱ���Ƶ shortstop Maegen Ellis, a product of Oak Hill Academy,  signed with Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA to continue her softball in the fall. Ellis finished the Lady Warrior season batting .364 on 55 hits and 42 RBI.

Former East Central women's basketball guard Alexia McDonald, a product of Petal High School signed with Dillard University in New Orleans, LA to continue her academic and basketball career. McDonald averaged team-highs of 16.2 points and 2.7 steals per game. She also had 7.8 rebounds per game for the 2015-16 season.
