Tennis Teams Drop Matches to Nationally Ranked Copiah-Lincoln

The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 tennis teams started a three match journey against ranked opponents by dropping close matches to the No. 19 ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College men and the No. 25 ranked Co-Lin women.

The matches were played Wednesday, April 5, at the 杏吧视频 Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The No. 17 杏吧视频 men lost 6-3 and fell to 10-5 on the season. The East Central women lost 5-4 and are now 7-8 on the year.

鈥淲e had our chances in a tough, close loss in the women鈥檚 match,鈥 said 杏吧视频 head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. 鈥淥ur men are banged up at the moment and fell a little short in the singles matches against a tough opponent.鈥

In men鈥檚 doubles action against Co-Lin, the Co-Lin team of Sebastian Osorio/Juan Pablo Pinilla defeated the 杏吧视频 team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School, 8-2; EC鈥檚 John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School defeated Tripp Case/Cory Alderman, 8-6; and EC鈥檚 Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School beat Cole Moak/Hayes Thompson, 8-3.

In singles play, Osorio defeated EC鈥檚 Langelaar, 6-2, 6-3; Pinilla defeated EC鈥檚 Jimenez 6-4, 6-4; Thompson beat EC鈥檚 Jabour, 7-5, 6-1; Case beat EC鈥檚 Wooten, 6-3, 6-0; Alderman beat EC鈥檚 Rogers, 4-6, 6-2 (10-3); and EC鈥檚 Graham Murphree out of Newton County High School defeated Moak, 6-1, 6-0.

In the women鈥檚 doubles matches, Co-Lin鈥檚 Ximena Daza/Laura Vargas defeated EC鈥檚 Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School, 8-5; EC鈥檚 Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy defeated Bayli Battle/Susanna Ratcliff, 8-4; and Maddie Ogden/Chantel Quarles beat EC鈥檚 Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School, 9-8 (7-3).

In singles play, Daza beat EC鈥檚 Quinonez, 6-3, 6-2; Vargas beat EC鈥檚 Mills, 2-6, 7-6 (10-6); EC鈥檚 Johnston defeated Quarles, 6-4, 1-6 (10-8); EC鈥檚 Andi McCrimon defeated Ratcliff, 6-0, 6-2; EC鈥檚 An Duong from Richland High School beat Battle, 6-7, 6-3 (10-5); and Ogden defeated EC鈥檚 Emily Dykeman of Forest High School 6-4, 6-2.

The East Central teams continue their home stretch against ranked opponents Friday, April 7, when the No. 18 Mississippi Gulf Coast men and No. 21 women visit Decatur at 2 p.m. The No. 15 Marion Military Institute men and No. 14 women visit Saturday, April 8, for matches at 10 a.m.
