Melvin Wooten was honored at the baseball games held April 25 against Coahoma for his commitment to the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ Athletic Department over the years. Wooten has been the play-by-play announcer for ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ Athletics for the previous 17 years through Boswell Media out of Kosciusko. During his time, he has called hundreds of games across multiple sports helping bring ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ athletics into the homes and commutes of thousands of listeners. Prior to the start of the 2020-21 athletic seasons, he announced that this would be his final year on the call. To commemorate his final regular-season game, he was presented a framed ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ baseball jersey by ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ President, Dr. Brent Gregory and Director of Athletics, Paul Nixon. Following the presentation, Wooten kicked the doubleheader off with a first-pitch ceremony.
Though these games served as an opportunity to honor Wooten, the long-time voice of the Warriors cannot hang his hat up just yet, as the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ softball team has two makeup doubleheaders this week followed by baseball's postseason play.
The ÐÓ°ÉÊÓƵ athletic department, staff, and administration thank Mr. Wooten for all he has done to promote the college and wish him the very best in his retirement.
