Jones County Sweeps Tennis Matches at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ

Both the Jones County Junior College men’s and women’s tennis teams picked up wins over ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ in matches played Wednesday, April 12, at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The East Central women fell 7-2 while the men dropped a 6-3 match. On the season, the East Central men are now 12-7 and the women are 8-11.

In the men’s doubles against Jones County, JCJC’s Taqel Lewis/Diego Leal beat EC’s Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School, 8-3; Chase Pennington/Brandon McRae beat EC’s John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School, 8-5; and EC’s Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School defeated Jacob Bozeman/Luke Armstrong, 9-7.

In singles play, Lewis defeated EC’s Wooten, 6-2, 6-0; Leal beat EC’s Jimenez, 6-1, 6-2; Pennington beat EC’s Jabour, 6-2, 6-3; Bozeman beat EC’s Stewart, 6-3, 6-2; EC’s Rogers defeated McRae, 6-1, 6-4; and EC’s Graham Murphree from Newton County High School beat Armstrong, 6-1, 6-4.

In the women’s doubles matches Jones County, JCJC’s Beth Owen/Nastya Bukhenova beat EC’s Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School, 8-2; Mattie Mills/August Parker beat EC’s Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy, 8-6; and April Rudolph/Brooke Cran beat EC’s Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School, 8-4.

In singles play, Owen beat EC’s Quinonez, 6-3, 6-2; Bukhenova beat EC’s Mills, 6-1, 6-0; Rudolph beat EC’s Johnston, 7-5, 2-6 (10-3); EC’s Andi McCrimon beat Cran, 6-1, 6-0; EC’s An Duong from Richland High School, defeated Mills, 7-6, 4-6 (10-4); and Parker beat EC’s Emily Dykeman of Forest High School, 6-0, 6-3.

The East Central men’s and women’s teams will now compete in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Tournament/National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament April 19-22 on the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston.
