杏吧视频 Tennis Warriors Shutout Co-Lin, Lady Warriors Drop 7-2 Match
The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 tennis team shutout the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves 9-0 for the second time this season, while the East Central Lady Warriors dropped a 7-2 match to the No. 22 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves in action Friday, March 8, at the 杏吧视频 Tennis Complex in Decatur.
The 杏吧视频 men and women are both 6-5 on the season.
鈥淲e had a couple of close doubles losses on the women鈥檚 side, but our women鈥檚 team keeps improving,鈥 said 杏吧视频 head coach Jay Pacelli. 鈥淜ayla Baucum elevated her singles game today and had her best match of the season. Bethany Wellerman had a strong effort as well. We got strong tennis from our top three singles positions on the men鈥檚 side against an undermanned Co-Lin team.鈥
Men鈥檚 Doubles Results:
EC鈥檚 Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated Co-Lin鈥檚 Ray Drane and Drew Nelson, 8-0; and EC鈥檚 Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) and EC鈥檚 Isaac Keen (Winston Academy) and Jake Wofford (East Webster) won by forfeit.
Men鈥檚 Singles Results:
EC鈥檚 Lawrance defeated Drane, 6-0, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Santitto defeated Nelson, 6-1, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Barnett defeated Toby White, 6-0, 6-0; and EC鈥檚 Keen, Wofford, and Chaney won by forfeit.
Women鈥檚 Doubles Results:
Co-Lin鈥檚 Paula Coronado and Carmen Manicea defeated EC鈥檚 Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County), 9-7; Co-Lin鈥檚 Katy Clark and Kara Clark defeated EC鈥檚 Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) and Kayla Baucum (Newton County), 8-1; and Co-Lin鈥檚 Madison Shows and McKenzie Shows defeated EC鈥檚 Bethany Wellerman (Newton County Academy) and Alexis Tindall (Newton County Academy), 8-6.
Women鈥檚 Singles Results:
Coronado defeated EC鈥檚 Gomez, 6-2, 6-4; Manicea defeated EC鈥檚 Tindall, 6-0, 6-0; Katy Clark defeated EC鈥檚 Walker 6-3, 6-0; Kara Clark defeated EC鈥檚 Hurst 6-1, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Wellerman defeated Co-Lin鈥檚 Ashlyn Locke, 6-1, 6-3; and EC鈥檚 Baucum defeated Co-Lin鈥檚 Faith Bergeron, 4-6, 6-4 (11-9).
East Central travels to Perkinston to face Gulf Coast on Friday, March 15, at 1 p.m. The teams will then take a spring break trip to Alabama. The Warriors will play Gadsden State on Saturday, March 16, and the Lady Warriors will face Snead State. Both matches begin at 2 p.m. in Gadsden, Ala. The following day, both teams will play Wallace State in Hanceville, Ala., at 1 p.m.
The next home matches are Wednesday, March 27, against Meridian at 3 p.m.
