杏吧视频 Tennis Teams Rebound from Losses to Sweep Holmes

The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 tennis teams rebounded from losses to nationally ranked Meridian teams earlier in the week to sweep Holmes Community College by identical 9-0 scores in matches played Friday, March 24, at the new Tennis Complex in Decatur.

The No. 17 ranked Warriors improved their record to 7-4 on the season, while the Lady Warriors improved to 5-6.

鈥淭hese were good bounce-back victories,鈥 said 杏吧视频 coach Jay Pacelli. 鈥淲e got off to a good start and never looked back. We are looking to get a winning streak going and this was a great start.鈥

Pacelli added that it was good to get No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles player Julia Johnston back in the lineup after an injury sidelined her for several matches.

In men鈥檚 doubles action against Holmes, the EC team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School defeated Matthew Philly/Matthew Dubourg, 8-1; EC鈥檚 John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School defeated Eric Menefee/Merritt Blackwell, 8-1; and EC鈥檚 Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School beat Chris Stuckey/Emanuel Brooks, 8-0.

In singles play, EC鈥檚 Langelaar defeated Philly, 6-0, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Jimenez defeated Menefee, 6-0, 6-1; EC鈥檚 Jabour defeated Blackwell, 6-3, 6-2; EC鈥檚 Stewart defeated Dubourg, 6-1, 6-3; EC鈥檚 Rogers defeated Hayden Switzer, 6-1, 6-2; and EC鈥檚 Graham Murphree out of Newton County High School beat Rylee Artman, 6-1, 6-1.

In the women鈥檚 doubles matches, EC鈥檚 Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School defeated Ashleigh Pope/Savanna Bell, 8-0; EC鈥檚 Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy won by forfeit; and EC鈥檚 Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School beat Lucy Oakes/Jessica May, 8-1.

In women鈥檚 singles play, EC鈥檚 Quinonez won by forfeit; EC鈥檚 Mills beat Pope, 6-0, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Johnston won by forfeit; EC鈥檚 Andi McCrimon defeated Oakes, 6-0, 6-0; EC鈥檚 An Duong from Richland High School beat May, 6-0, 6-0; and EC鈥檚 Emily Dykeman of Forest High School defeated Bell, 6-0 7-6 (7-3).

The East Central teams return to action at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, against Hinds Community College at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.
