The nationally ranked Meridian Community College tennis teams swept matches from the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ men’s and women’s teams at the Tennis Complex in Decatur March 22.
The No. 20 ranked Meridian women defeated the ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Lady Warriors 9-0, while the No. 13 Meridian men beat the No.17 East Central Warriors 9-0. The East Central women are now 4-6 overall on the season and the men are 6-4.
In the women’s doubles matches, Meridian’s Shelby Zachry/Jordyn Hull beat EC’s Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Emily Dykeman of Forest High School, 8-3; Taylor Miller/Rachel Sollie beat EC’s Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy 9-8 (9-7); and Micah Gray/Kyra Holway beat EC’s Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School, 8-1.
In women’s singles play, Zachry beat EC’s Quinonez, 6-3, 2-6, (10-3); Hull beat EC’s Mills, 6-3, 6-1; Holway defeated EC’s Samantha McCrimon, 6-1, 6-0; Miller beat EC’s Andi McCrimon, 6-1, 6-1; Sollie defeated EC’s An Duong from Richland High School, 6-2, 6-3; and Gray beat EC’s Dykeman, 6-1, 6-3.
In men’s doubles action against Meridian, the Meridian team of Jason Pimenta/Will Swindoll defeated the EC team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School, 8-1; Callan Shinall/Breno Goncalves defeated EC’s John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School 8-5; and Noah James/Hathan Hollis beat EC’s Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School, 8-6.
In men’s singles play, Pimenta defeated EC’s Langelaar, 6-0, 6-0; Goncalves beat EC’s Jimenez 6-3, 4-6, (10-6); Swindoll beat EC’s Jabour 6-2, 6-0; Shinall beat EC’s Stewart, 6-3, 6-1; James beat EC’s Rogers, 6-2, 6-0; and Will Irvin defeated EC’s Graham Murphree out of Newton County High School, 6-2, 6-3.
The East Central teams return to action at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, against Holmes Community College at the Tennis Complex in Decatur.
