杏吧视频 Tennis Teams Drop Close Home Matches to Nationally Ranked Co-Lin

The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 tennis match came down to the last courts of the day to decide the outcome before the No. 17 ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves pulled out a 5-4 win Thursday, March 8, at the Tennis Complex on the campus in Decatur. The No. 24 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves earned a 6-3 win over the 杏吧视频 Lady Warriors.

The East Central men are now 0-6 on the season, while the Lady Warriors are 3-3.

鈥淚t was a great effort by our men against No. 17 Co-Lin,鈥 said 杏吧视频 head tennis coach Jay Pacelli. 鈥淚t came down to the last courts, and both Landon (Gibson) and Isaac (Keen) played their hearts out at the end of their matches.鈥

Pacelli said the 杏吧视频 women played shorthanded as No. 1 player Gabriela Gomez was out with an injury. 鈥淢adison Crapps (Pisgah High School) and Meredith Bozeman (Brookhaven) stepped in and gave a great effort,鈥 he said.

In the men鈥檚 doubles action, Co-Lin鈥檚 Sebastian Osorio/Juan Pinilla defeated EC鈥檚 Tom Langelaar (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central, 8-2; EC鈥檚 Willie Wooten of Warren Central and Landon Gibson of Clarkdale defeated Tripp Wyatt/Braden Ishee, 8-5; and EC鈥檚 Emontie Lewis of Terry and Jake Wofford of East Webster beat Tripp Case/Matthew Scoville, 8-6.

In the men鈥檚 singles, Osario beat EC鈥檚 Langelaar, 6-4, 6-1; Pinilla defeated EC鈥檚 Wooten, 6-2, 6-1; EC鈥檚 Jabour defeated Scoville, 6-3, 6-3; Case beat EC鈥檚 Lewis, 6-4, 6-0; EC鈥檚 Gibson beat Ishee, 2-6, 7-5, (10-2); and Wyatt defeated EC鈥檚 Isaac Keen of Winston Academy, 6-0, 6-7, (7-3).

In the women鈥檚 doubles matches, Co-Lin鈥檚 Gyselle Daza/Carmen Manicea beat EC鈥檚 Crapps and Tatiana Quinonez (Bogota, Colombia), 8-0; Kara Clark/Katy Clark beat EC鈥檚 Alexis Tindall of Newton County Academy and Caylee Grace Yarborough of Loyd Star, 8-2; and EC鈥檚 Julia Johnston of Florence and Sara Mazzella of Newton County Academy beat Faith Bergeron/Ashlyn Locke, 8-3.

In the women鈥檚 singles, Daza defeated EC鈥檚 Bozeman, 6-0, 6-0; Manicea beat EC鈥檚 Quinonez, 4-6, 6-2, (10-8); Katy Clark beat EC鈥檚 Tindall, 6-1, 6-2; Kara Clark defeated EC鈥檚 Yarborough, 6-3, 6-4; EC鈥檚 Bethany Wellerman out of Newton County Academy beat Locke, 6-1, 6-2; and EC鈥檚 Johnston beat Madison Franklin, 6-0, 6-1.

The East Central teams will host Itawamba Community College on March 9 at 2 p.m. The Itawamba men are ranked No. 20 nationally. The 杏吧视频 men will then face No. 21 Gadsden State Community College (Ala.) on Saturday, March 10, at 1 p.m. at the Tennis Complex in Decatur, before both teams take a week off for Spring Break.
