The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 tennis teams both lost matches to nationally ranked Meridian Community College teams Monday, Feb. 6, in Meridian.
The East Central men, ranked No. 22 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped to 1-1 on the season with the 8-1 loss to No. 11 nationally ranked MCC. The 杏吧视频 doubles team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School fell to Meridian鈥檚 Jason Pimenta and Will Swindoll 2-8; EC鈥檚 John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School defeated Callan Shinall and Breno Goncalves 8-5; and Graham Murphree of Newton County High School and Brandon Rogers of Winston Academy fell to JT Champion and Noah James 3-8.
In singles play, Pimenta defeated EC鈥檚 Langelaar 6-0, 6-2; EC鈥檚 Jimenez fell to Gonclaves 1-6, 4-6; Swindoll beat EC鈥檚 Jabour 7-5, 6-2; James beat EC鈥檚 Stewart 6-4, 7-6 (6-8); EC鈥檚 Rogers fell to Shinall 3-6, 1-6; and EC鈥檚 Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School fell to Will Irwin 2-6, 2-6.
鈥淚t was a good victory for John and Will,鈥 杏吧视频 head coach Jay Pacelli said of his team鈥檚 lone doubles win. 鈥淢CC played well. We are looking forward to playing them again later this season.鈥
In the women鈥檚 action at Meridian, the Lady Warriors fell to the No. 18 ranked MCC women 8-1.
In the doubles matches, EC鈥檚 Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School beat Shelby Zachry and Jordyn Hull 8-3; EC鈥檚 Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy fell to Taylor Miller and Rachel Sollie 5-8; and EC鈥檚 Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and An Duong from Richland High School fell to Micah Gray and Kyra Holloway 3-8.
In singles play, EC鈥檚 Quinonez fell to Zachry 1-6, 2-6; EC鈥檚 Mills fell to Hull 2-6, 6-7 (5-7); EC鈥檚 Johnston fell to Holloway 1-6, 6-1 (9-11); EC鈥檚 Andi McCrimon fell to Miller 0-6, 2-6; EC鈥檚 Duong fell to Sollie 3-6, 4-6; and EC鈥檚 Emily Dykeman of Forest High School fell to Gray 2-6, 2-6.
The East Central men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams travel to Raymond Thursday, Feb. 9, to face Hinds Community College at 2 p.m.
