Six new inductees will join the �Ӱ���Ƶ Student Hall of Fame during the annual Awards Ceremony scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, in Huff Auditorium on the Decatur campus.

Various academic, career, technical, healthcare and other special awards will also be presented during the special program April 21. The event is free and open to the public.

The newest Hall of Fame members and their respective hometowns and high schools are: Keshawn Davis of Morton and Morton High School; Gianna Esposito of Union and Union High School; Heston Harrison of Little Rock and Newton County High School; Magdelyn Kirk of Louisville and Winston Academy; Mabry Mayfield of Carthage and Leake Academy; and Annabelle Miller of Lucedale and George County High School.

Selection to the Hall of Fame is considered the highest honor a student can receive at the college. Among the criteria used by those selecting Hall of Fame recipients are exemplary character, superior scholarship, worthy leadership, and contributions to the betterment of �Ӱ���Ƶ.

“�Ӱ���Ƶ is blessed to have so many outstanding students that the process of selecting our six Hall of Fame inductees each year is very difficult,” said �Ӱ���Ƶ President Dr. Brent Gregory. “For these six individuals to rise to the top means they are truly exceptional students in so many ways. We are extremely proud to be inducting them into our Student Hall of Fame on April 21.”

Keshawn Davis, a computer science major, is the son of Kimberly Owens and Robert Davis. He is vice president of membership for the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, president of the President’s Council, co-president of Warrior Corps, president of Alpha Alpha Epsilon, and a member of Baptist Student Union and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He received the Ann Burkes PTK Scholarship and C++ Award last year, and is Sophomore Class Favorite this year.

Those nominating him said: “Keshawn is a reminder of why I love my job. He gives priority to his faith, his academics, and his extracurricular activities. He is a light in the classroom. He is the epitome of a top intellectual student who took advantage of all the college offers to mature into an even greater young man.”

Gianna Esposito, a business administration major, is the daughter of Stephanie Esposito. She is president of the Student Body Association, president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, secretary of the President’s Council, editor of the Wo-He-Lo yearbook, and a member of DECA and Warrior Corps. She received the Dr. Margaret Mosal Memorial Scholarship for Leadership and was selected �Ӱ���Ƶ’s Most Beautiful as a freshman.

Those nominating her said: “Gianna is highly respected by students, faculty, and staff. She excels in her courses, works both on and off campus, leads multiple student organizations, and is greatly involved in campus activities. She is one of the nicest, most humble, and hardest working students and has made a positive impact in her time at �Ӱ���Ƶ.”

Heston Harrison, a pre-medicine major, is the son of Dawn and Glen Harrison. He is president of Sigma Sigma Mu Tau, and a member of the President’s Council and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Last year he received the Frank Edwin & Nena Holt Leatherwood Scholarship at Awards Day.

Those nominating him said: “Heston is an extremely intelligent, respectful young man who is always courteous and offers to help with anything he sees that needs to be done. As a student, he’s extremely bright and intelligent and diligently works to ensure his classwork stays top-notch. Heston is an asset to any environment he is in.”

Magdelyn Kirk, pre-nursing major and December 2021 graduate, is the daughter of Melanie and the Honorable Judge Kiley Kirk. She was treasurer of the Student Body Association, president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and a member of the Warrior Cheerleading Squad, Warrior Corps, President’s Council, Baptist Student Union, and Sigma Sigma Mu Tau. She was a Sophomore Homecoming Maid last fall.

Those nominating her said: “Maggie is an active member of the organizations in which she is a part of at East Central. She works hard to better the campus, and help out when needed. She is a strong supporter of East Central. She loves the school, the community, and the people, and she is grateful for the opportunities the college has given her.”

Mabry Mayfield of Carthage, a pre-nursing major, is the daughter of Alicia and Mike Mayfield. She is vice president of the Freshman Class, Freshman Homecoming Maid, and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, Warrior Corps, Diamond Darlings, Centralettes Dance Team, Phi Beta Lambda, Baptist Student Union, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Those who nominated her said: “Mabry deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame because of her outstanding academic record, her ability to receive an associate’s degree in one year, and to also remain active on campus through it all. That is an excellent example of her determination and her work ethic. She is one of a kind.”

Annabelle Miller, a pre-pharmacy major, is the daughter of Sheila Taylor and John Miller. She is a vice president of fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and a member of the Lady Warrior Soccer Team and East Central Wesley. Her honors include Freshman Mathematics Award, Harvey & Martha Wheeler Pre-Pharmacy/Pre-Med Scholarship, and Dr. Shelby L. Harris Memorial Scholarship. In soccer, she earned All-Conference, All-Region, Most Valuable Player, Coach’s Player of the Season, North Division All-Star, and Academic All-American.

Those who nominated her said: “Belle has been a model student who has also taken on leadership roles on the soccer team. She is one of the hardest working students on campus. She is as fierce in the classroom as she is on the soccer field. Her desire for success extends to her classmates; when they struggle, she is anxious to help them.”

In addition to being honored at Awards Day on April 21, photos of the six new inductees will hang in the Hall of Fame Collection in the lobby of Huff Auditorium.
