East Central Tennis Falls to Gulf Coast on the Road

The 杏吧视频 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 tennis teams both lost matches to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College teams Friday, March 3, in Perkinston.

The East Central men, ranked No. 22 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped to 4-3 on the season with the 8-1 loss to No.18 nationally ranked MGCCC. The 杏吧视频 doubles team of Tom Langelaar from Veldhoven, Netherlands, and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central High School fell to Gulf Coast鈥檚 Travis Bell and John Murphy 8-4; EC鈥檚 John Jimenez of Oruro, Bolivia, and Will Stewart of Newton County High School fell to Noah Tippen and Noah Rowell 8-4; and Brandon Rogers and Willie Wooten out of Warren Central High School of Winston Academy fell to Brett Bowen and Reid Cudd 8-2.

In singles play, Bell defeated EC鈥檚 Langelaar 6-0, 6-2; EC鈥檚 Jimenez fell to Murphy 6-4, 7-6 (7-5); Tippen beat EC鈥檚 Jabour 6-1, 7-5; Rowell beat EC鈥檚 Stewart 6-2,6-1; EC鈥檚 Rogers fell to Cudd 6-0, 6-1; and Graham Murphree of Newton County High School beat Will Irwin 6-3, 6-3.

In the women鈥檚 action at Meridian, the Lady Warriors fell to the MGCCC women 9-0 and drop to 3-4 on the season.

In the doubles matches, EC鈥檚 Tatiana Quinonez of Bogota, Columbia, and Julia Johnston of Florence High School fell to Paulina Estrada and Bianca Buie 8-3; EC鈥檚 Chaney Mills of Newton County High School and Andi McCrimon of Winston Academy fell to Katie Burrall and Jenna Lyons 8-3; and EC鈥檚 Samantha McCrimon of Winston Academy and Hannah Payne from Union High School fell to Jasmine Sartin and Kaci Calhoun 8-5.

In singles play, EC鈥檚 Quinonez fell to Estrada 6-0, 6-2; EC鈥檚 Mills fell to Buie 6-1, 6-71(5-7); EC鈥檚 Johnston fell to Burrall 6-0, 6-0; EC鈥檚 McCrimon fell to Sartin 6-2, 6-2; EC鈥檚 Duong fell to Lyons 6-2, 6-0; and EC鈥檚 Emily Dykeman of Forest High School fell to Jillianne Craft 7-6, (9-7), 6-4.

The East Central men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams will host Itawamba Community College in their first home matches in the new Tennis Complex Friday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
