He was born July 27, 1963, in Kosciusko, MS.&nbsp;</p> <p>"We are all shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Chris," said ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ President Dr. Brent Gregory. "Chris was not only a great co-worker and coach, but he was a friend to everyone on campus and his genuine personality will be missed by all at the college and in the community."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Clarke Venable Baptist Church, Decatur, MS. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newton County Funeral Home North (9998 Hwy 15 North, Newton, MS). Rev. Mark Vincent and Rev. Kelvin Boone will officiate. Newton County Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.&nbsp;</p> <p>Chris graduated from Decatur High School in 1981 and was known as a gifted athlete, fierce competitor, and one of the nicest guys in the school. He played basketball and baseball in high school, golf, baseball, and tennis at ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ, and was inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame. Chris graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1985 earning the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. Chris worked for La-z-Boy and ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ where he coached the golf team and worked in the Workforce development department where he oversaw training opportunities for district businesses and companies.&nbsp;</p> <p>Chris enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and investing in the lives of students at his Church, Clarke Venable Baptist Church. Clark served as a deacon and often chaperoned student events such as Centrifuge, Mission Fuge, and Disciple Now. Chris also taught the third and fourth-grade boys' Sunday School class at CVBC.&nbsp;</p> <p>Chris is preceded in death by his father, Joe Clark; grandparents, Alton and Mattie Lee Johnson and Marzene and Odessa Clark. The three-round event, held at the Windance Country Club, featured six MACCC schools in Gulf Coast, Co-Lin, Meridian, East Miss, ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ, and Pearl River. The schools were joined by Calhoun Community College, Andrew CC, Coastal Alabama, and Rend Lake College.&nbsp;</p> <p>MGCCC won the event with an 875, while Co-Lin and Meridian finished second and third.&nbsp;</p> <p>East Central's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/miller_gage_dmrj">Gage Miller</a>&nbsp;led the Warriors with a T-26th finish after carding a three-day 236, while&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/guzhvin_max_dbv2">Max Guzhvin</a>&nbsp;moved up 13 spots late in the tournament with a third-round 74 to finish in 31st after posting a 240.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/denley_bryce_dexm">Bryce Denley</a>&nbsp;was tied for 32nd after coming in one stroke behind his teammate with a 241, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/maskew_river_k2z2">River Maskew</a>&nbsp;tied for 40th with a 246.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/herrington_peyton_kdom">Peyton Herrington</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/moore_lane_ntso">Lane Moore</a>&nbsp;rounded out the Warriors with rounds of 261 and 265.</p> <p>The event concludes the fall portion of the 2022-23 golf season as the team will return to action at the Oaks in Pass Christian on Monday, February 6, and Tuesday, February 7 for the fourth MACCC event of the season.&nbsp;</p> <table of the year Oct.&nbsp;10-11. The tournament, hosted by Meridian Community College and played at Briarwood Country Club, featured an 11-team field.&nbsp;</p> <p>Mississippi Gulf Coast won the event, while East Mississippi finished second. Meridian and Co-Lin finished third and fourth, while the Warriors and Pearl River finished tied in fifth.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Warriors shot a 324 in the first round and backed it up with a 321 on the second day for a two-day total of 645.&nbsp;</p> <p>East Central's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/miller_gage_dmrj">Gage Miller</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/guzhvin_max_dbv2">Max Guzhvin</a>&nbsp;both finished in the top ten as the duo carded total scores of 158. The Warriors finished the opening round in second to last place with a 338 team total, before bouncing back in round two with a stellar 316, the third lowest team total of the day, to move the team up four spots at 654.</p> <p>Mississippi Gulf Coast won the event with a 589, while Meridian finished second with a 607. Itawamba rounded out the top three with 624.</p> <p>Individually, ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/denley_bryce_dexm">Bryce Denley</a>&nbsp;(Mandeville, La.) led the Warriors with a 151 after shooting rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4), just two strokes away from landing All-Tournament team honors.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/miller_gage_dmrj">Gage Miller</a>&nbsp;(Anniston, Ala.) shot a 161 after carding an 85 (+13) in the first round and bouncing back with a 76 (+4) in the second for a 24th overall finish.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/moore_lane_ntso">Lane Moore</a>&nbsp;(Collinsville) shot an 89, 80 for a two-day total of 169, good for a 34th overall finish, while&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/herrington_peyton_kdom">Peyton Herrington</a>&nbsp;(Meridian) shot an 87, 84, (EC Photo)</em></p> <p>ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ alumnus Kevin Bounds of Brandon has donated golf simulation equipment to his alma mater to be used in a proposed indoor practice facility for the men’s golf team.</p> <p>A native of Newton, Bounds played golf for ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ during the 1989-90 season. Among the golf simulation equipment donated was a launch monitor, 55-inch TV, iPad, and camera.</p> <p>He made the donation in memory of his father, the late Rodney Bounds of Newton, who was a graduate of East Central and a former member of the college’s Board of Trustees.</p> <p>ÐÓ°ÉÊÓÆµ Head Men’s Golf Coach Chris Clark said the equipment will be used in a proposed indoor practice facility for the Warrior golfers, which will be located in an existing building on the Decatur campus. A fundraising campaign is underway to fully furnish the location, which will be used as a practice option for the team during inclement weather. "We have four guys returning from last year's team who have a season of experience under their belt along with three incoming freshmen that we are expecting good things from."&nbsp;&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Returning for the Warriors in 2022 for sophomore campaigns are&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/denley_bryce_dexm">Bryce Denley</a>&nbsp;(Mandeville, La.),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/maskew_river_k2z2">River Maskew</a>&nbsp;(Lucedale),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/miller_gage_dmrj">Gage Miller</a>&nbsp;(Anniston, Ala.), and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ecccathletics.com/sports/mgolf/2022-23/bios/hill_lee_a4k2">Lee Hill</a>&nbsp;(Decatur).&nbsp;&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Denley and Maskew are no strangers to success as the duo represented the Warriors in the NJCAA&nbsp;DII Gulf District Championship as individuals to close out their freshmen seasons. Denley has a solid all-around game, and has the mental fortitude to grind out a good score, while Maskew is known for his length off the tee which often puts him in positions to make birdies.&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Miller is another player that is talented in all facets of the game with the ability to go low on the scorecard. Hill, a lefty, played his first year of competitive golf last year and has loads of natural ability. The multi-sport athlete is another sophomore the coaching staff will be expecting good things from.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Joining the group of talented sophomores are three freshmen that look to make an immediate impact on the Warrior lineup. Guzhvin's game is talented in all areas and is a solid ball striker, while Herrington is a fairway finder with the ability to roll the ball well on the greens.
