After a historic 2023 season, �Ӱ��Ƶ is excited to begin the first phase of a comprehensive three-phase expansion project at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex.

“We are ecstatic about this project. This is another step to get our facility to where we ultimately want it to be,” said 17-year head coach Neal Holliman. “We’ve recently added new lighting and a padded outfield wall, and this upgrade will really take us into an entirely different category in this league. Student-athletes, just like all of us, are visually driven so we expect these upgrades to continually help us recruit and retain the best players in the local area, state, and beyond.”

Phase one of the project includes the construction of bathrooms, storage facilities, an umpire area, and a viewing deck. The development will also include a skybox in phase two and additional bleacher seating in phase three. The new facility, located on the first base side of the field, will be integrated under the existing covered area.

Anticipated completion for phase one is set to coincide with the start of conference play in the 2024 season.

"Over the years, Coach Holliman has done an outstanding job of engaging fans and supporters of the �Ӱ��Ƶ Warrior Baseball program. Those individuals and local businesses have been very generous in their donations to make the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex what it is today,” said Director of Athletics, Paul Nixon. “The College continued its commitment to the Department of Athletics with the addition of the state-of-the-art LED lights on all our outdoor athletic venues this past year. I want to thank Dr. Gregory and the �Ӱ��Ƶ Board members for their dedication to improving Warrior Athletics. This stadium expansion is a much-needed addition that will benefit our student-athletes, their families, and the Wall O’ Sound band as it will provide bathroom facilities to their practice field."

In 2023, the Warriors concluded with an impressive 37-20 overall record and clinched both the MACCC and NJCAA Region 23 championships. Notably, their region title secured the college's first-ever bid to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. The team looks to build upon this success as they prepare for the 2024 season.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball program had two players earn First Team All-MACCC honors in Trey Lewis of Silas, Ala., and Clayton Cook of Mize. The duo picked up the All-Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference honors for standout seasons on the diamond, particularly in the batter's box as the pair led off nearly every game for the Warriors and led the program in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, runs, and walks.

Lewis, a middle infielder, posted a team-high batting average of .428 after racking up 68 hits, which were second-best in the entire MACCC. The sophomore drove in 44 runs and had a .535 on-base percentage as he drew 28 walks throughout the year. In his career at �Ӱ��Ƶ, Lewis finished with 94 hits through 84 games played with six homers, 66 RBIs, a .364 batting average, and 35 stolen bases. Lewis has signed with the University of South Alabama to continue his playing career.

Cook, an outfielder and the Warriors' leadoff batter for the 2022 season, was another stellar bat as he posted a .388 batting average after picking up 66 hits in 46 games. He drove in 34 runs from the leadoff spot and had a .475 on-base percentage. Cook was 12th in the conference in batting average and fourth in hits. Cook finished his three-year career with 148 hits through 105 games with 79 RBIs, 32 doubles, 10 home runs, 40 stolen bases, and a .387 batting average. Cook signed with Southeastern Louisiana University to continue his playing career.

Cook and Lewis led the Warriors to a 30-17 overall record and a playoff berth as the team's season came to an end in the NJCAA Region 23 Best-of-Three series against East Mississippi earlier in the month.

The Warriors of �Ӱ��Ƶ battled through a back-and-forth contest against the East Mississippi Community College Lions on Friday, May 6, to force a game three in the NJCAA Region 23 best-of-three series with an 11-10 win.

The win evened the series at one each with the deciding game slated for Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. in Scooba. The win pushed the Warrior record to 30-16, while the Lions fell to 26-17.

The winner of the Saturday matchup will advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament set to be played on the campus of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville beginning on Monday, May 16.

An early error by the Warriors in the bottom of the first inning allowed the Lions to take a 1-0 lead going into the second.

J.T. Vance led off the second and was hit by pitch, but three straight outs eliminated the Warrior threat. Carson Gault led off the home half of the second and hit his third homer of the series for the Lions and pushed the EMCC lead to 2-0.

The Warriors roared back in the top of the fourth as Austin Green led off the frame with a hard hit single right up the middle. Kade Turnage followed and launched a two-run, opposite-field homer on the first pitch of his at bat. The hard-hit shot, Turnage's second long ball of the series, knotted the game at two-all.

The homers continued to fly out of Gerald Poole Field as the Lions hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth before an RBI single grew the Lion lead to 5-2.

The Warriors threatened again in the top of the sixth as Turnage and Coleton Smith led off the inning with back-to-back walks before Conner Hicks was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Leighton Jenkins rose to the occasion and ripped an RBI single to score one before Trey Lewis added another with an RBI on a fielder's choice. Eli Collins rounded out the inning with an RBI double that plated two runs and gave the Warriors a 6-5 lead.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ lead was erased in the bottom of the seventh as the Lions led off with another solo homer, this one from Wesley Sides. EMCC then retook the lead, 7-6, with a walk while the bases were loaded. Cade Hall checked into the game and got out of the jam with a fly-out.

Back-to-back singles from Jenkins and Clayton Cook put two Warriors on the bags in the eighth, and Lewis came through with an RBI single that plated both to continue the back-and-forth action as the Warriors retook the lead, 8-7. That lead grew to 10-7 as Collins drove in Lewis while Green plated Collins with an RBI single of his own. The Warriors finished the inning with five singles, three of which drove in runs.

The newfound Warrior lead was once again snatched back by EMCC as the Lions plated three in the bottom of the half on an RBI double and a pair of Warrior errors. Heading into the final inning, the game was once again tied, this time at 10-10.

A leadoff walk put Smith on base to lead off the top of the ninth for �Ӱ��Ƶ, and after a steal and sac fly, Smith stood at third base. Cook drove Smith in with a hard-hit grounder to short that was ruled an error. The run put the Warriors in front 11-10.

Luke Odom forced three straight outs in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for the Warriors.

Odom got the win for �Ӱ��Ƶ as he surrendered no runs on zero hits over two innings, walking none. Mason Willis threw five and one third innings to start the game on the bump for �Ӱ��Ƶ and fanned seven batters while giving up five runs – four earned – on six hits with four walks. Miles Miller and Cade Hall both threw in relief for �Ӱ��Ƶ.

Blake Wren picked up the loss for EMCC.

Collins led the Warriors at the dish with three hits, while Lewis, Green, and Jenkins all had a multi-hit game. Lewis and Collins posted team-best three-RBI performances.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ Warrior baseball team dropped a tight one to East Mississippi in game one of the NJCAA Region 23 best-of-three play-in series on Thursday afternoon, May 5, in Scooba. The Warriors led by as much as 5-1 in the seventh, but the Lions came back to grab the win late in the contest. The loss moved the Warriors to 29-16 on the year, while East Miss improved to 26-16.

The Warriors were the first on the board on Thursday as Coleton Smith roped a double to center in the top of the second to plate Kade Turnage, who reached earlier in the inning with a double of his own.

A solo homer from EMCC in the bottom of the third knotted the game at 1-1, but the Warriors pulled right back in front in the top of the fourth with a hard RBI from Ramie Harrison to score Turnage.

The next few frames were a pitching duel, but �Ӱ��Ƶ's Austin Lee checked in as a pinch hitter and stepped up in a big way with a powerful double to right field to score Turnage yet again. The shot put the Warriors on top, 3-1.

That lead shot to 5-1 in the top of the seventh with a two-run RBI double from J.T. Vance that hit off the fence in right field. Trey Lewis and Eli Collins scored on the play. Lewis reached on a walk, and Collins reached on a fielder's choice.

The Lions responded in the bottom half of the seventh with an eight-spot that was led off with a solo homer. A pair of errors, an RBI single, and a three-homer, Carson Gault's second long ball of the inning produced the additional runs. The big frame put the Lions on top, 9-5.

Trailing by four going into the ninth the Warriors buckled down and led off the frame with two baserunners in Lewis and Collins. Turnage got the Warrior dugout on their feet just a few batters later as he hammered a three-run homer that cleared the leftfield fence. The three-run bomb cut the lead to just one, 9-8, but it was all she wrote for the Warriors in the ninth.

Harrison led the Warriors at the plate going three-for-five on the day, while Turnage was two-for-five. Turnage drove in three runs and scored a team-high three runs himself. Collins, Austin Green, Vance, Smith, and Lee all posted one hit.

Beau Bates led EMCC with three hits, while Gault had a pair of hits and a team-best four RBIs.

Grant Edwards got the start for the Warriors and threw six innings. Edwards gave up four runs – three earned – on five hits with seven strikeouts to just one walk. Miles Miller, Luke Odom, Dagan Martin, and Ervin Simmons all threw in relief. Miller picked up the loss for �Ӱ��Ƶ, while Austin Garrison got the win for the Lions.

Both the �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball and softball teams will be in action this week in postseason play. East Central is one of just six MACCC programs to have both teams competing in postseason play and over the past 12 years, �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball coach Neal Holliman, and �Ӱ��Ƶ softball coach Leigh White, have sent their respective programs to the playoffs a combined 23 times.

Baseball and softball have two different postseason structures. In softball, the conference's top eight programs – based on regular-season conference record – play a double-elimination MACCC Tournament at the No. 1 seed's home site to determine a conference champion. The winner of the MACCC event, along with the four other top finishers advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament set to be played the following week with the winner of that advancing to the NJCAA DII World Series. The Region Tournament will be hosted by the MACCC winner, with the exception being Jones College as the same team cannot host both the MACCC and Region Tournament. In that scenario, the host site would move to the MACCC runner-up.

Baseball selects the top nine programs based on the regular-season conference schedule, with the No. 1 team being tabbed conference champion. Seeds two through nine then play a best-of-three play-in series at the higher seeds' home field. The four programs that advance from the best-of-three series then join the No. 1 seed along with LSU Eunice for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament to determine the region winner and selection for the NJCAA DII World Series. The Region Tournament is held at the No. 1 seeds home field.

It was all Meridian on Tuesday night, April 26, as the No. 8 Eagles ran away with a pair of wins against the No. 20 �Ӱ��Ƶ Warriors in Decatur, 11-1 in game one and 9-5 in game two on sophomore night. With the losses, the Warriors move to 27-15, 13-13 on the year while the Eagles improve to 29-11, 17-7. The Warriors will now turn their attention to Coahoma as the Warriors travel to Clarksdale to take on the Tigers on Friday, April 29 to round out regular season play.

The Warriors are currently tied for 7th place in the MACCC with Northwest, Itawamba, and Gulf Coast at 13-13.

Game One | L, 11-1

The Warriors fell behind early in the opener as the Eagles plated one run in the first before pouring another three in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

That advantage ballooned to 8-0 in the third as the Eagles added another four runs in the top half of the third. Two runs scored in the fourth and one in the fifth to push the lead to 11-0, but �Ӱ��Ƶ got one back in the bottom of the fifth after Ramie Harrison reached base on a single before being driven in on an RBI single from Clayton Cook.

Cole Boswell got the win for MCC as he threw all five innings and struck out four. Mason Willis picked up the loss for �Ӱ��Ƶ after throwing two and a third innings, and gave up six runs – all earned – on six hits with a pair of strikeouts. Miles Miller, Luke Odom, and Henry Thornton all threw in relief with Thornton's two strikeouts leading the bullpen.

�Ӱ��Ƶ posted five hits in the game with Cook's two singles and an Eli Collins double leading the way.

Game Two | L, 9-5

�Ӱ��Ƶ made a late push in the second game as the Warriors bounced back from trailing 5-0, but were unable to overcome the lead as the Eagles added three runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Meridian plated two in the second and added another two in the fourth off a two-run homer to leap out to a 4-0 lead. That lead grew to 5-0 in the top of the fifth, but an error in the field in the bottom of the fifth allowed Leighton Jenkins to cross the plate before a passed ball plated Coleton Smith to pull the Warriors within three, 5-2.

MCC again added a run in the sixth, but an RBI triple from Harison followed by a towering two-run homer from Smith in the home half of the sixth cut the lead to just one, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Eagles big frame in the seventh kept the Warriors at bay.

Alec Sparks got the win on the bump for MCC, while Grant Edwards picked up the loss for �Ӱ��Ƶ after surrendering four runs – two earned – on five hits with four strikeouts through four innings of work. �Ӱ��Ƶ also threw Ervin Simmons, Cade Hall, Dagan Martin, Gage Tufnell, Odom, and Thornton in relief.

Smith led the Warriors at the dish with two RBIs on two hits, including the big home run.

Tim Anderson’s wife, Bria, accepts the Hall of Fame plaque from �Ӱ��Ƶ Director of Athletics Paul Nixon on her husband’s behalf. Tim Anderson was playing a game for the Chicago White Sox and could not attend the ceremony.

�Ӱ��Ƶ alumnus Tim Anderson, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies Tuesday, April 26, at the Hinds Community College Muse Center in Pearl.

Anderson is a 2013 graduate of �Ӱ��Ƶ and the current starting shortstop for Major League Baseball's Chicago White Sox.

During his freshman season at East Central in 2012, Anderson batted .360 with four home runs, 37 runs batted in, and 30 stolen bases in 30 attempts. He had a breakout sophomore season in spring 2013, leading all junior college baseball players with a .495 batting average and helping the Warriors to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Championship. He was named a first-team National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American in 2013 and NJCAA All-Region 23 and MACJC All-State both seasons. He was the NJCAA Male Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Anderson was drafted by the White Sox in 2013 as the 17th overall selection in the MLB Draft. He moved up through the White Sox's minor league system before joining the big league club and making his debut on June 10, 2016, doubling in his first at-bat in a win over the Kansas City Royals. He played 99 games his rookie season, starting 97 at shortstop and recording 33 multi-hit games.

He spent his first full season in the major leagues in 2017, hitting .257 with 17 home runs. In 2018, Anderson became the first shortstop in White Sox history to record 20-plus home runs and 20-plus stolen bases in a season. He also had a career-high 64 RBI in 2018. During the 2019 season, he won the Major League Batting Title with a .335 average, with career-highs of 167 hits and 32 RBI. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, Anderson would hit .322 with 10 homers in just 49 games.

Anderson would make his first Major League All-Star Game debut during the 2021 season. On August 12, 2021, that season in MLB's Field of Dreams Game in Iowa he hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to help the White Sox beat the New York Yankees 9–8. Overall in 2021, Anderson hit .309 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI, and a career-best 94 runs scored.

Anderson and his wife, Bria, reside in Chicago and have two daughters: Peyton and Paxton.

The couple established Anderson's League of Leaders in 2017 in memory of Tim's best friend Branden Deon Moss. Anderson's League of Leaders builds leadership skills in youth affected by violence through scholarships, community partnerships, baseball camps, free haircuts and school supplies, and other projects in Chicago and Tuscaloosa.

Anderson was inducted into the �Ӱ��Ƶ Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball team split a pair of games with the Hinds Eagles this week as the Warriors took game one on Wednesday, April 20, and fell in game two which was played on Thursday due to a lightning delay that postponed the contest. The Warrior baseball team is now 27-13 overall and 13-11 on the season and is currently in a logjam of four MACCC schools with 13 conference wins on the year.

The Warriors racked up 18 hits through the two contests and were led at the plate by Clayton Cook and Trey Lewis who combined for eight hits in the doubleheader.

Game One | W, 8-3

The Warriors took a late lead in game one against Hinds as the Warriors plated one run in the seventh and eighth before adding another three in the top of the ninth to secure an 8-3 win in the opener.

After a Trey Lewis homer in the first, the Eagles took the lead with three runs in the bottom. An RBI single from Clayton Cook and an error knotted the game at 3-3 in the fourth, before a J.T. Vance sac bunt put �Ӱ��Ƶ in front in the seventh. Another Cook single made it 5-3 in the eighth, but the game was broken open in the ninth with RBI singles from Coleton Smith and Jalen Ayers that pushed the lead to 8-3.

Grant Edwards got the win for the Warriors as he went four innings, allowed no runs on three hits, and struck out four. Miles Miller threw one and a third in relief and fanned one batter, while Mason Willis got the start and threw three and two-thirds. Holland Townes took the loss for Hinds.

Cook finished the day going 4-for-5 from the plate to lead the Warriors.

Game Two | L, 6-0

A lightning delay forced the second game to be delayed by one day as the Warriors made the trip back down to Raymond on Thursday. The Warriors could not recover from an early deficit and fell 6-0.

The Eagles scored three in the first and another three in the fourth to run away with the win.

The Warriors posted five hits on the day with Eli Collins' double in the top of the first being the only extra-base hit.

Conner Nation got the win for Hinds as he went the distance, while Luke Odom got the loss for �Ӱ��Ƶ after throwing two-thirds of an inning allowing three runs – all earned – on four hits. Miller, Cade Hall, and Ervin Simmons all threw in relief with Miller striking out two and Simmons fanning three.

The No. 14 �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball split a pair of MACCC games with Mississippi Delta April 2, before bouncing back with a dominating victory over Bevill State, a DI community college from Alabama, on Monday, April 4. �Ӱ��Ƶ run-ruled the Mississippi Delta Trojans in the opener, 14-4, before losing a tight one in the nightcap, 5-4. The team rallied from the loss on with an 18-6 run-rule win over the Bears. The results moved the Warriors to 21-9, 7-7 on the year.

�Ӱ��Ƶ's Clayton Cook, Eli Collins, and Trey Lewis continued their seasons as the trio combined for 18 of the Warriors' 33 hits through the three games. Lewis went for 7-for-11 to lead �Ӱ��Ƶ over the stretch, while Coleton Smith drove in a team-best seven runs through the three games.

Lewis reached base in every game, stretching his streak to 26 games in a row reaching safely. His hits give him a five-game streak. Conner Hicks grew his reached base streak to 15 games. while J.T. Vance is up to 13 games in a row reaching base safely with a five-game hitting streak. Cook now has a four-game hitting streak and five-game reached base streak, and Ramie Harrison has reached safely in eight games.

Game One vs Delta | W, 14-4

All of the Warriors' runs in the run-rule win over Mississippi Delta came from big innings as the Warriors plated three in the first, four in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the bottom of the sixth to "walk-off" the game.

RBI singles from Collins and Ramie Harrison put the Warriors on top 3-1 early, before four runs crossed in the third off a three-run homer from Smith and a solo shot from Vance.

Delta got some runs back, but a leadoff bomb from Cook, an error, and an RBI from Turnage grew the Warrior lead to 10-3 going into the fifth.

�Ӱ��Ƶ ran away with the game in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice from Smith, an RBI groundout from Conner Hicks, and a Jalen Ayers walk-off single to complete the run rule.

Smith drove in five runs in the contest to lead �Ӱ��Ƶ, while Cook, Collins, Harrison, and Vance all had multiple hits in the game.

Brendon Minor got the start and the win on the mound for �Ӱ��Ƶ as he went four innings, gave up seven hits, four runs – all earned – struck out two, and walked three. Luke Odomfinished the game with two solid innings in relief giving up just one hit and fanning two Trojan batters.

Game Two vs Delta | L, 5-4

Game two was not as electric for �Ӱ��Ƶ as the Trojans plated two in the second, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to get the win in the seven-inning contest.

All of �Ӱ��Ƶ's runs came in the third as Lewis scored Cook, who led off the frame with a double, on a hard-hit single. After a Collins walk, Harrison cleared the bases with a line drive to right to put the Warriors on top. Smith kept his hard-hitting up and plated Harrison for his sixth RBI on the day and grow the lead to 4-2.

Unfortunately, that was all the Warriors were able to plate in the contest as the Trojans rallied down the stretch.

Lewis was �Ӱ��Ƶ's only hitter to post multiple hits, while Harrison's two RBIs were a team-best.

Grant Edwards started the day on the bump and picked up the loss after throwing four and two-thirds innings. The righty surrendered six hits, four runs – one earned – and struck out two. Ervin Simmons, Cade Hall, and Mason Willis all threw in the contest.

Single Game vs Bevill State | W, 18-6

The Warriors came from the loss with fury on Monday as the team thumped Bevill State, scoring 13 runs in the final two frames of the six-inning shortened game.

Collins put �Ӱ��Ƶ on top, 2-1, in the bottom of the first with a towering two-run homer, but it was short-lived as the Bears plated three in the top of the second to regain the lead.

�Ӱ��Ƶ knotted the game in the third as Vance drew a bases-loaded walk while, and Smith drove in a run on a sac-fly. An RBI single from Cook broke the tie in �Ӱ��Ƶ's favor in the fourth, before the Warriors lit up the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth.

The runs came from Hayze West on a sac-fly, an RBI double from Cook, and three straight RBI singles from Lewis, Collins, and Vance.

A passed ball and another RBI single from Lewis added more for �Ӱ��Ƶ in the sixth, before Austin Green and Turnage plated two more with singles. A fielder's choice and an error plated the final Warrior runs.

The Warriors racked up 15 hits in the win with Lewis posting four and Cook adding three. Cook plated a team-high four RBIs.

Gage Tufnell got the start and the win on the hill after throwing five innings. He gave up five hits, four runs – three earned – walked five, and struck out two. Cade Hall and Henry Thronton threw one inning each in relief.
