�Ӱ��Ƶ (�Ӱ��Ƶ) in Decatur, Mississippi, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 12, to officially open the softball hitting facility. The state-of-the-art facility features exceptional hitting spaces that will directly impact �Ӱ��Ƶ's softball student-athletes, providing them with the resources they need to improve their game.

The ceremony also marked the unveiling of the new Max & Carolyn Cook Huey Weight Room, located at the north end of the building. This new facility gives the �Ӱ��Ƶ softball team a dedicated workout space to help the student-athletes build strength and endurance, giving them a competitive edge on the field.

“We are proud to offer these outstanding resources to our student-athletes,” said �Ӱ��Ƶ President Dr. Brent Gregory. “This project took a lot of hard work from a variety of people including current and former coaches, athletic administrators, and players in fundraising efforts. We are thankful for all our donors who bought into our program with financial contributions as they are the ones who make projects like these come to fruition.”

The program consisted of remarks from Dr. Gregory, Head Softball Coach Leigh White, and Director of Athletics Paul Nixon before those in attendance participated in self-guided tours of the facilities.

The softball hitting facility and weight room are a testament to �Ӱ��Ƶ's commitment to providing its student-athletes with the best possible resources to succeed. As �Ӱ��Ƶ continues to build on its tradition of excellence in athletics, these new facilities will play an important role in helping the college's softball team achieve even greater success in the years to come.

The Warriors of �Ӱ��Ƶ evened out their 2022 record to 1-1 on Friday, Sept. 16, but more importantly, got the first MACCC win of the season as the Warriors downed Holmes Community College 2-1. Holmes moved to 1-1, 0-1 with the loss.

"We started the game really well playing at pace and creating some really good chances," said Warrior head coach Ethan Paschal. "We have to do better at putting those chances away early, but we managed to get two before half which was great for momentum. The second half was a very chippy game that we had to defend with grit against a very direct opposition – overall I'm pleased with the boy's performance and we'll go again on Tuesday."

The Warriors and Bulldogs met in an exhibition that ended in a 3-3 tie back in August, but the Warriors took care of business in the conference matchup.

Late in the first half �Ӱ��Ƶ's Evan Reape (Ballina, Ireland) took advantage of a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Just moments later, Stanley Trzaska (Long Beach) ripped a freekick from near midfield at the buzzer. The goal pushed the lead to 2-0 going into the half.

Holmes got one goal back in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Warrior defense shut down the Bulldogs for the final 40 minutes of the match to secure the win.

The Warriors are back at home on Tuesday, Sept. 20, as the team takes on Northwest Mississippi Community College at the �Ӱ��Ƶ Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. in the first-ever night game at the facility under the new lights on campus.

�Ӱ��Ƶ's Meadow Villar has been tabbed as Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Second Team All-Conference for her efforts on the diamond throughout the 2022 season.

Villar, a freshman from Dallas, Ga., was an anchor for the Lady Warrior defense as she saw action in 46 games at third base. The North Paulding High School product had the biggest bat in the Lady Warrior lineup as she led the team with eight home runs and 14 doubles. Villar's power and the plate and extra-base hit potential helped her also lead the Lady Warriors in RBIs with a team-best 44 driven in. She finished the year with a .318 batting average, .429 on-base percentage, and .628 slugging percentage while scoring 46 times herself and posting 11 multi-hit games.

The Lady Warriors finished the 2022 season 27-21 overall after going 16-12 in MACCC play. The Lady Warriors advanced to the postseason and played in the MACCC Tournament on the campus of Jones College in Ellisville, but fell to Itawamba, 6-5, and to Northeast, 6-2, to close out the 2022 campaign.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ Lady Warrior softball team closed out the 2022 season on Thursday afternoon, May 5, with a 6-2 loss to the Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers in the MACCC Tournament. The game was held in Ellisville on the campus of Jones College, the MACCC regular-season champions. �Ӱ��Ƶ finished the year 27-21 overall.

A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases in the top of the first for �Ӱ��Ƶ in the second straight game. Emmi Harkins got a run in as she was hit by a ball on the sixth pitch of her at-bat. That was all for the Lady Warriors as three runners were left stranded sending �Ӱ��Ƶ to the field with a 1-0 lead.

Northeast hit back in the bottom of the second with four runs on a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double. The big frame gave the Lady Tigers a three-run lead, which they never surrendered for the remainder of the game.

The Lady Tigers added another one in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1, but Anna Caime drove home an �Ӱ��Ƶ run in the top of the fourth with a sac fly to left. The sacrifice plated Mattie Hodge who had ripped a double earlier in the frame. Northeast scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to the final, 6-2.

The Lady Warriors racked up eight hits on the day, but could not get the runners home as 12 Lady Warriors were stranded on the bags throughout the day. Hodge led the way at the plate for �Ӱ��Ƶ with three hits in three at-bats, while Harkins and Lizzy Hollingsworth both posted multi-hit games.

Caroline Jackson got the start in the circle and picked up the loss as she went one and two thirds. She gave up four earned runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout. Rae Rae Evans finished the game for the Lady Warriors and went four and a third, giving up two runs – both earned – on eight hits with one walk.

Taylor King led Northeast with three hits, while Emma Dempsey got the win in the circle.

The Lady Warriors will now turn their attention to offseason preparation for the 2023 season.

The Lady Warriors of �Ӱ��Ƶ gave it their all on Wednesday afternoon, May 4, as they scratched in five unanswered runs down the stretch in the opening game of the MACCC Tournament held in Ellisville on the campus of Jones College. The five runs were not enough as the Lady Indians of Itawamba got the win, 6-5. The Lady Warriors will be back at Jones College tomorrow for the second round of the double-elimination tournament.

The Lady Warriors had a great start on Wednesday as �Ӱ��Ƶ loaded the bags after an error and a pair of walks. Unfortunately, �Ӱ��Ƶ did not plate a run and left all three stranded.

A leadoff double in the bottom of the second put a runner in scoring position for ICC, and after a sac bunt, an RBI single gave Itawamba a 1-0 lead.

An �Ӱ��Ƶ error and single put two more Lady Indians on the bases in the bottom of the third before Kara Hays cleared them with a three-run homer that stretched the lead to 4-0. An RBI triple and an error plated two more for ICC in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0.

The Lady Warriors refused to give in and in the top of the fifth, picked up the first hit of the day, a single from Mary Moore Widemire. Widemire, was brought home just two batters later as Emily McDonald cranked a two-run shot over the left-field wall to cut the lead to 6-2.

In the sixth, a fielding error on a Widemire hit plated both Ndrah Tanksley and Emmi Harkins, Tanksley was running for Meadow Villar who led off the inning being hit by a pitch, while Harkins reached on an error. The pair of runs pulled the ICC lead to just two, 6-4.

A double steal plated the Lady Warriors' final run in the sixth inning as Morgan Pruitt forced herself in a rundown between first and second while Anna Caime, who also reached base on a hit by pitch, stole home.

After a pair of groundouts and line out, the Lady Warriors were at the dish in the top of the seventh looking for one run to extend the game but were unable to knot the contest.

The Lady Warriors finished the day with two hits, a single from Widemire and a two-run homer from McDonald.

Rae Evans went the distance in the circle and gave up six runs – three earned – with two strikeouts and no walks.

ICC was led by McKenzie Patterson who post three hits, while Hays had three RBIs.

Madison Jenkins got the win in the circle as she threw four and two thirds innings, gave up two runs – both earned – walked two, and struck out eight.

Both the �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball and softball teams will be in action this week in postseason play. East Central is one of just six MACCC programs to have both teams competing in postseason play and over the past 12 years, �Ӱ��Ƶ baseball coach Neal Holliman, and �Ӱ��Ƶ softball coach Leigh White, have sent their respective programs to the playoffs a combined 23 times.

Baseball and softball have two different postseason structures. In softball, the conference's top eight programs – based on regular-season conference record – play a double-elimination MACCC Tournament at the No. 1 seed's home site to determine a conference champion. The winner of the MACCC event, along with the four other top finishers advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament set to be played the following week with the winner of that advancing to the NJCAA DII World Series. The Region Tournament will be hosted by the MACCC winner, with the exception being Jones College as the same team cannot host both the MACCC and Region Tournament. In that scenario, the host site would move to the MACCC runner-up.

Baseball selects the top nine programs based on the regular-season conference schedule, with the No. 1 team being tabbed conference champion. Seeds two through nine then play a best-of-three play-in series at the higher seeds' home field. The four programs that advance from the best-of-three series then join the No. 1 seed along with LSU Eunice for the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament to determine the region winner and selection for the NJCAA DII World Series. The Region Tournament is held at the No. 1 seeds home field.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ Lady Warrior softball team left Meridian on Wednesday afternoon, April 27, with a pair of wins as the Lady Warriors swept the Lady Eagles in a two-game MACCC matchup. With the wins the Lady Warriors moved to 25-19 overall and to 14-12 in MACCC play, while the Lady Eagles fell to 14-27, 4-22.

Going into the final regular-season matchup of the year, the Lady Warriors are tied for sixth in the MACCC standings.

Game One | W, 12-4

The Lady Warriors were led to victory in the opener by Emily McDonald who totaled four hits with three singles and a double.

�Ӱ��Ƶ poured in three runs in each of the first, third, and fourth innings, and additional runs in the second and seventh. The game broke open in the top of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles from Emmi Harkins and Lizzy Hollingsworth to push the early �Ӱ��Ƶ lead to 7-0. That advantage would grow to 10-0 in the fourth, but MCC bounced back with three of their own in the home half of the inning.

McDonald finished the game four-for-five from the dish with a team-best three RBIs while Hollingsworth was three-for-four. Mary Moore Widemire and Mattie Hodge joined the impressive performances with a pair of hits each.

Rae Rae Evans threw a stellar five-inning outing as she gave up no runs on no hits and struck out four. Jayce Currie closed out the game in the final two frames and surrendered four runs – two earned – on four hits.

Game Two | W, 13-9

The Lady Warrior lead blew up to 9-1 in the top of the third inning in the nightcap as Mary Moore Widemire cleared the bags with a towering grand slam to center field. The shot added to the damage already done in the second inning when Mattie Hodge drove in a pair of runs with a triple.

The Lady Eagles came to life down the stretch in the second game with eight runs in the final three innings, but the Lady Warriors capitalized on some Lady Eagle errors and a sac fly to pull away to a 13-9 victory.

Hodge and Widemire led the Lady Warriors with another multi-hit game with two each, while Widemire's grand slam gave her a team-high four RBIs.

Caroline Jackson got the start and win in the circle as the freshman gave up eight runs – one earned – on six hits, struck out three, and walked three. Evans checked in for the final two frames and gave up one run – earned – on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The Lady Warriors of �Ӱ��Ƶ picked up a key split with the Hinds Lady Eagles on Wednesday, April 20, as �Ӱ��Ƶ bounced back from a game one loss with a stellar 11-7 victory in the nightcap. The split moved the Lady Warriors to 23-19 on the year and to 12-12 in conference play. With just two MACCC series remaining, the Lady Warriors sit in seventh place in the conference standings.

Mary Moore Widemire led the Lady Warriors at the plate in the series as she went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Emmi Harkins, Lizzy Hollingsworth, Meadow Villar, and Taylor Pittman joined Widemire with two RBIs each.

Game One | L, 3-1

Both the Warriors and Eagles had strong performances in the circle in the opener as there were just seven hits in the first game, a 3-1 Hinds win.

Hinds' Kendall Calloway picked up the win for Hinds as she went all seven innings and allowed just one hit and posted two strikeouts, while Rae Rae Evans threw all seven innings as well, giving up six hits, three runs – all earned – walked one, and struck out seven.

All three of Hinds runs came on solo homers with two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Mary Moore Widemire had �Ӱ��Ƶ's lone hit, a single in the sixth, but the Lady Warriors run came after Meadow Villar reached on an error and scored on a groundout from Emmi Harkins in the bottom of the seventh.

Game Two | W, 11-7

The Lady Warriors plated nine unanswered runs in the nightcap to earn the series split with an 11-7 win over the Lady Eagles.

An explosive first inning had Hinds up 3-2 before the Lady Eagles poured in four more in the top of the second. �Ӱ��Ƶ's two runs came from a towering homer from Villar in the bottom of the first.

RBI singles from Harkins and Shante' Beaulieu and an RBI triple from Lizzy Hollingsworth pulled the game to just one run, 7-6, in the bottom of the third.

With two runners on and an 0-2 count, Widemire came up big for the Lady Warriors in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single that put �Ӱ��Ƶ on top, 8-7. �Ӱ��Ƶ went on to plate three more in the frame to pull away with the win.

Caroline Jackson got the start in the circle, while Jayce Currie threw in relief, but Evans checked in to throw the final four and two-thirds innings and picked up the win. Melina Seiferd took the loss for Hinds.

Widemire, Currie, and Harkins all had two hits to lead the Lady Warriors at the plate.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ Lady Warrior softball team split with the No. 1 team in the country, Copiah-Lincoln, on Tuesday afternoon to move to 22-16 on the year and to 11-9 in MACCC play. The Lady Warriors won the first game, 8-7, and fell in the nightcap 11-2. The game one win snapped a 27-game win streak for the Lady Wolves and was Co-Lin's first conference loss of the season. The Lady Wolves fell to 33-3, 19-1.

Jayce Currie led the way at the plate for �Ӱ��Ƶ on the day as the sophomore went 4-for-6 from the plate. Emmi Harkins, Mary Moore Widemire, Meadow Villar, and Taylor Pittman all had multiple hits on the afternoon, with Harkins and Villar both posting home runs.

Game One | W, 8-7

The Lady Warriors took the late in the game with a six-run fifth inning to propel the Lady Warriors to victory.

The Lady Wolves took a one-run lead in the first, but a Co-Lin error in the top of the fourth knotted the game on a Shante' Beaulieu hit a grounder that scored Villar. The Lady Wolves got the run right back in the bottom of the fourth on an �Ӱ��Ƶ error to regain the lead.

Pittman tied the game at 2-all in the top of the fifth, and yet another error allowed two runs to score to give the Lady Warriors their first lead of the contest, 4-2. Currie went on to drive in another run before another error and a fielder's choice plated a couple more Lady Warriors to push the lead to 7-2.

The Lady Wolves came back and cut the lead to 7-5 in the bottom half, but a solo homer from Villar in the sixth gave the Lady Warriors some insurance making it 8-5. That homer paid off as a two-run Co-Lin homer in the bottom of the sixth pulled the game within one, but Rae Rae Evans checked in the bottom of the seventh to record the final three outs.

Caroline Jackson got the start and the win in the circle for �Ӱ��Ƶ as she gave up just three hits, six runs – two earned – and struck out three. Makayla White, Currie, and Evans all threw in relief.

Currie was a stellar 4-for-4 from the plate, while Villar had a team-high three RBIs on two hits.

Game Two | L, 11-2

Co-Lin opened up the scoring in the second game with one run on an error in the bottom of the first, but the Lady Warriors tied the game just a couple of innings later after Emily McDonald roped a line drive to score Mary Moore Widemire.

The Lady Wolves broke the game open in the bottom of the third with a nine-run inning to make it 10-1, a lead the Lady Warriors could not overcome. A solo homer from Harkins in the fourth was the Lady Warriors' final run of the day as the Lady Wolves took it, 11-2.

Harkins led the way at the plate with two hits, while her solo homer and McDonald's double were the only RBIs of the contest.

Evans got the start and went two and a third innings. She surrendered five hits, seven runs – six earned – and walked one. Currie and Jackson both threw in relief.

The �Ӱ��Ƶ Lady Warrior softball team traveled to Moorhead on Saturday, April 2, and took a pair of wins from the campus of Mississippi Delta Community College, 10-5 in game one and 7-3 in game two. The wins moved the Lady Warriors to 18-14 on the year and evened the squad up at 7-7 in MACCC play. Delta fell to 9-21, 4-10 on the season.

Emmi Harkins dominated the plate for the Lady Warriors as she went 5-for-7 and drove in four runs in the pair of victories. Lizzy Hollingsworth also had a strong afternoon with three hits in eight at-bats with a team-best five RBIs. Emily McDonald, Harkins, Hollingsworth, and Taylor Pittman all posted homers on the day.

Game One | W, 10-5

The Lady Warriors came to life late in the first contest as the team twice had to come from behind to earn the win.

The Lady Trojans of Delta plated two runs in the third inning to pull ahead, but an RBI double from Jayce Currie cut that lead in half, 2-1, in the top of the fourth. A pair of strikeouts from Caroline Jackson in the bottom of the fourth gave �Ӱ��Ƶ some momentum going into the fifth.

Shante' Beaulieu capitalized on that momentum, and a leadoff walk from Harkins, with a hard-hit double to tie the game at 2-2.

An RBI triple and an error gave the Lady Trojans a two-run advantage in the bottom of the fifth. Again, the Lady Warriors erased the advantage with a pair of RBI singles from Hollingsworth and Harkins to take a 5-4 lead to the home half of the sixth.

�Ӱ��Ƶ tore the game open in the top of the seventh. The big frame started with a two-run homer from McDonald. Hollingsworth drove in a pair later in the inning with a double, and Harkins immediately followed with another double to push the Lady Warrior advantage to 10-4. Delta got one run back in the seventh, but it was not enough.

Jackson went the distance in the circle and fanned seven batters, her best performance since striking out 10 against Kaskaskia College in February, and walked none. The freshman gave up seven hits and five runs – one earned.

Meadow Villar, Harkins, and Hollingsworth all posted multiple hits in the game, with Harkins and Hollingsworth driving in three runs each.

Game Two | W, 7-4

Mississippi Delta came out firing again in the second game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The runs came off an error and an RBI single.

The Lady Warriors hit right back in the top of the second with an RBI single from Beaulieu that plated McDonald who ripped a triple to right.

Two batters later Mattie Hodge hit her own triple, this one plated two runs run to knot the game at 3-all.

Hollingsworth and Harkins continued with the one, two punch firepower in the third as the duo went back-to-back with homers. Hollingsworth's was a two-run shot, while Harkins was a solo. The big hits made it 6-3, �Ӱ��Ƶ.

The remainder of the game was scoreless with the exception of Pittman's solo-homer to lead off the seventh.

Rae Rae Evans threw a great, complete game from the circle as she gave up seven hits, three runs – none earned – struck out seven, and walked two.

Harkins' three hits led the way at the dish, while Mary Moore Widemire added a couple. Hollingsworth and Hodge had two RBIs each.
